Captain Swoop,
Not heads out in terms of Exposed crewman. Tests have proved that units using the less complicated systems managed to outmanuver and defeat M1A2's and M1A2 Seps. Too many crews were fixated on their display screens looking for electronic updates and not paying to much attention to their immediate surrounding areas. M1A1D crews proved this time and again. They had FBCB2 without all of the fancy gadgets in the A2's and handed them their butts. There needs to be a happy harmony between looking at your screens and looking out of your vision blocks. In a recent test I was observing a tank commander was more concerned about sending digital updates to an infantry unit clearing a building rather than using his radio. What is faster telling someone something of composing an email? In the debrief's these crews were so reliant on their electronic sensors, that they totally forgot to use their own Mark 1 Eyeball. You should have seen what happened when their system was intentionally shutoff to simulate a failure. There are cheaper systems out there that will give us the same situational awareness. One also needs to remember that there are risks in combat, no matter what we do, we will always be at risk. There are things that can minmize that risk, but it will always be there. In a combat enviornment, you need to use your systems, and your own observations not one over the other.
