from army-technology.com:
"The Leopard 2A6 includes longer L55 gun, an auxiliary engine, improved mine protection and an air-conditioning system. The German Army is upgrading 225 2A5 tanks to 2A6 configuration, the first of which was delivered in March 2001. The Royal Netherlands Army has ordered the upgrade of 180 of its 2A5 tanks to 2A6 configuration, the first of which entered service in February 2003. 219 Leopard 2A6 are to be license-built in Spain by General Dynamics, Santa Barbara Sistemas (GDSBS)."
The longer gun is a 55 calibre, the short is a 44, calibre is the numbre of times a barrel is longer than the bore diameter so
120mm x 55 = 6600mm
120mm x 44 = 5280mm
the new barrel is 1320mm longer. 37.7mm in 1/35 scale. There is a 2a6 here that says L55 gun is from Italeri's kit, I have the Tamiya which has the L44. I think Model Point's Leopard 2 barrel is the L55.
I don't know if any of the other changes are externally visible, all my references show only up to A5.
