I'm not expert, but I've seen those plates both on up-armoured NZ Army M113s and USMC AAVTP7A1s. I have photos of both vehicles, the M113 stuff you can see in my recent Military Modelling article the AAVTP7A1 unfortunately I have the photos somewhere but they are in my mess (way too many prints...) and
very difficult to find. The armour plates are not overly thick, I'd say about 5mm thick in real lifeb. I'm not quite sure how they are made up (composite, ceramic armour layers?).
