The Artillery Museum at Ft. Sill, OK probably has good references- not sure if you are nearby. Their website is limited but you may be able to call them- you can search- and get Ft. Sill on any search engine. See what you come up with.

I know they have one of the "short barreled" M109s on display- it even has a RPG hole in the side.
