Jane's says that the X1A and the X1A1 were just a modernized M3A1 Stuart, then they made the X1A2 from scratch (obvioulsy copying from the Sherman and the Bulldog). Seem's like a nifty little tank for it's time, could be equiped with a lazer range finder, full range of night vision and even airconditioned (so that you can be fresh and ready for Carnival!)
The prototypes were equiped with the French Panhard D-921 cannon but then they used thier own 90mm Cockerill gun produced by Engesa of Brazil
There was an X1A3 with automatic transmission that never made it past the drawing board.
