Well...
Tamiya's kit represents a T-72A (or as they call it a T-72M1). This is a export version of the T-72 and because of the added plate to the front glacis, means it was not and is not in use with the Russian Army. Therefor the only pictoral evidence at this time for this variant of the T-72 family is in green or sand. IF you change out the front glacis so that it is correct for other variants of the T-72 line, then it is possible to paint it in the modern 3-tone cammo scheme.
Honestly, only a true russian tank fan is going to really know or care...just like with the problems of the turret. If you do not really care about these particular accuracy problems, then by all means, go with the 3-tone cammo as it is MUCH nicer than the standard green. I painted up my TOS-1 in it, and it look much better. Here is a link to my work ont he TOS-1: http://saammodels.tripod.com/companies/spdesigns/t72/tos1/index.htm
Hope that helps |
