THat's not neccessarily true.
The first M60A3 did not have a TTS. AFAIK this was an add-on specifically for Guard tanks. There are a few in-service photos of the A3 mounting the Xenon searchlight, specifically a few in Squadron's M60 Patton in Action. These vehicles appear to be A3s as they have the thermal sleeve on the barrel, as well as the crosswind sensor...
IIRC the A3 was to rely on passive (light amplification) night vision, and the searchlight was for backup (or to enhance the passive night vision?).
