The tank is an M26. The swords are the M1840 Cavalry Sabers.
It replaced the Rhomboid Tank collar insignia utilized up to and during the war by Tank Regiments and the Crossed Sabers of the Horse Cavalry Branch, worn from the 1850's until it was disbanded in 1942.
In Black it has been worn on the fatigue and Battle Dress uniforms since Viet-Nam. The new Army Camouflage Uniforms do not carry the branch insignia.
In shined Brass, they are worn on the officer's Class A Dress Green and Dress Blue Uniform coat lapels.
