Damn you Michael, you beat me to it...haaa haaa.
Wow, I am impressed that someone other than a Canadian wants to build a Canadian Centurion Mk.11LR.
I think that AFV Club is going to be releasing a dedicated Mk.11 kit soon.
There were different versions in appearance of the Canadian Mk.11LR.
The differences were based on what year it was and the modifications at those times.
From about 1964 to 1969 the Canadian Mk.11LR was painted in a four colour cam pattern. In about 1967 the original British style mushroom looking antenna mounts were replaced with the U.S. style antenna mounts and antennas. Most tanks had the .50 cal mount on the Commander's hatch ring. The .50 cal had a ring sight like on the Lynx C&R. Tanks could be seen both with and without the thermal barrel jackets.
From 1970 until retirement the Canadian Mk.11LR was repainted in the 2 colour cam pattern. Most tanks had the thermal barrel jacket removed as they were falling apart. The tanks eventually all got the 'hush puppy' style tracks and the metal tracks were kept for war time use. Most tanks had the .50 cal mount but there were some that were removed by the crew.
Quarter Master's Depot is now closed so there are no Canadian Centurion decals produced. The decals were nice but they were actually incorrect for the Mk.11s.
Go to the Armoured Acorn site and click on camouflage patterns..then click on Canada and there will be PDF colour plates for both camouflage patterns used. Markings can also be found in the Reference section in Canadian Vehicle Markings....the Mk.11LR call signs should actually be yellow letters and numbers and not white on a black background as shown.
The Mk.11LR ws only used by Canada in Germany. There were only a few in Canada for training.
I have a full build and finishing article in an upcoming issue of AFV Modeller magazine. If you get to read it I hope it helps your project. |
