Hi Jonis
There is a lot of confusion about the Pink Panther. The ex serviceman discription that you refer to is I think from a resent model magazine and is in itself inaccruate as he was getting confussed between vehicles. The first SAS pink panthers were series Is used from the late 50s into the mid 60s. These had the same armament as the old SAS Jeeps. When the series II land rovers arrived the SAS conversed them infield around the mid 60s. Your piture above is one of those. They are easily identifed by the half tube gun carriers on the wings and the lack of smoke dischargers. Once they had perfected the design, the purpous built series IIs were comissioned as seen in the tamiya kit and used from the late 60s into the mid eighties when the 110 DPV arrived. The Tamiya kit is pretty accurate and is how they were used in Oman in the 70s and elsewhere. The Green Hornet is simply a paint job.
I recommend you buy Wheels and Tracks Magazine Number 9 from 1984 to find out all you need to know and more. It can be found on ebay or abebooks.
Cheers,
Paul |
