| Subject: | Canadian Leopard and M113 Colours 1989 | |

HI folks, I'm doing a pile of itsy bitsy (1/300 scale) Leopards for a 1989 hypothetical WWIII wargame campaign. I should know the colours of these tanks in Canadian Forces Europe in 1989 as I was an armoured officer in Canada (on Cougars) at the time and served as a NATO umpire on several FALL EXs. But I'm confused by an article I'e found in Fine Scale Modeller (March 1999).
In that article, George Bradford discusses markings on Canadian Leopards. In it he says that as of 1987, a three tone camo was ordere by NATO. Now, I seem to recall a monotone colour for our Leopards and I know the Armour School Leos I trained on were monotone green (and definitely *NOT* the khaki drab George specifies in the article). I should remember the RCD and 8 CH Leopards, but can't quite recall the colours - I was an umpire with a German infantry battalion or the Canadain Van Doos most of the time.
Would the three colour scheme be correct for 1989? I had planned to do the tanks in monotone green as I thought I remembered it, but George's article has thrown me for a loop! 8)
Also, the same question goes for the Canadian infantry's M113s. Again, somthing I *should* remember, but most of the time I was with the Van Doos, we were on foot patrols...
Thanks so much in advance for any help on these two topics. |
