| Subject: | T-55AM or T-55M5? | |
| Date: | Jun 4, 2007 |
| From: | Shon Stephens | |
I have seen pictures on the internet described as T-55-M5. I have also seen what appears to be the same tank in the January 2006 MMI VTTV Omsk article. According to the article, this upgrade was introduced in 2001 and includes:
100mm D-10T2S gun w/ integral laser range finder and thermal gun sleeve
TKN-1SM combination sight
12.7mm Kord machine gun
ERA blocks on turrent front/sides
Rubber side skirts
Front armor panels from T-80
V-46-5MS engine from T-72
I've also read that the six-spoked bogies of the T-72 are fitted. This appears correct from the photos I've seen.
I'd like to know which designation is correct, and if possible the source for anymore information, photos, book sources, internet sources regarding this variant. Also, does anyone know if the road wheel stations were moved to accommodate the T-72 bogies, and what type of tracks are equipped. Really any information
Thanks,
Shon |
