Steve,
I cannot speak specifically about Challenger as Chieftain was my vehicle. In my experience, the turret bins were mainly used to stow personal kit as well as other comfort items.
It was also customary to store items that needed to be kept to hand such as weapons spares, spare episcopes and other things that were more expensive. You would also normally find the 'Bivvy' canvas shelter stored there.
However saying that the decisions as to stowage were actually something that would be agreed within a crew, so different tanks might vary, in what you might find.
On the Tamiya challenger 1 Kit the basket on the front of the turret is mainly used for cam nets.
In my day in the 70's we never were allowed to have kit slung all over the vehicle like is the practice in some armies, hence the fact that extra bins would be fitted, to allow for more space.
Hope this helps,
John |
