Hi Theo:
In a nutshell, the OMSh tracks (I'm assuming that's the designation for the original T-54/T-55/T-62 tracks) have holes within the links themselves for the guide teeth of the sprockets to engage the tracks, while the later RMSh tracks have the guide teeth of the sprockets engaging the tracks at the outer edge. The RMSh tracks are seen on T-55M, T-62M and T-72 family vehicles. I really don't think a North Vietnamese T-54 would have the RMSh tracks. For what it's worth, WWII Productions do really nice sets (in my opinion) of both the OMSh tracks and RMSh tracks, along with the modified sprocket needed to modify a T-55 or T-62 so that it can use the tracks. I helped somewhat with the research on these tracks and sprockets, so I'm a bit biased, but I am very impressed with what Bill created - you should see the foundry casting marks on the links!
Cheers,
Scott Taylor |
