The Leopard 2A6M is not just needed because of the heat in the summer....it is a better tank overall. The Leopard C2 MEXAS crews are managing in the summer heat. Thermal coverings have been added to the hull and turrets of the C2 in order to cool them down.
Training is still going on and they will be there for the next rotation in late August/September when 'C' Squadron, LdSH(RC) deploys. The crews just can't train and deploy...there is a timeline to be followed and they need to at least spend a bit of time with their families after being in Germany to train. The vehicle techs, weapons techs, and fire control system techs also have lots to train on with the hull the turret systems...can't rush that.
Unknown if any further modifications will be done to the tanks prior to deployment...there are rumours about more add-ons but nothing confirmed. |
