Re: answers to what extra gear is carried & where do you put the BV (boiling vessel), suggest you log onto www.arrse.co.uk (the British Army Rumour Service website). They have a military history & militaria section which can yield lots of info like this. Warning: if you get into reading some of the other thread sections on ARRSE, you may cause yourself serious injury through laughter at some of the stories - once you understand some of the jargon terms used & in-jokes at others' expense!
Give it a try, at least you'll have a laugh.
