Dave,

The M981 is still around-although less an less. Some units still have them but may not have taken them to Iraq. In some cases I think units have pulled the GVLLD (Laser designator) out of the turret and mounted it on HMMWV. Plus there is now newer kit for laser designation.

Not aware of any in Afghanistan.
