| Subject: | Staghound with 2 pounder | |

Hi guys,
On ML there is a posting from Chris Mrosko with a number of Lebanese Staghounds. A number of these are conversions with the turret and gun from the AEC MKIII armoured car.
There are also a number of MKI's with what seems to be a BESA co-ax and 2 pounder replacing the normal armament (see pic, for discussion purposes only).
The AEC turreted vehicles have the bow MG in a (armoured?) sleeve, one frontal pic show the bullet aperture in this sleeve to be non centric. As these vehicles have a .50 AA Mg and a co-ax BESA it would make sense to have a BESA in the bow position too (or have three different types of MG ammo aboard?).
Seeing these rearmed MKI's, I guess it's a safe bet (with the bow MG not visible) that these had a BESA bow MG too?
A pitty no right hand side views of these MKI's are available, would like to see the rest of the gun rotor/mantlet.
It would seem logic that these conversions are British in origin. Making phased out Staghounds attractive for export? Or were these vehicles, the AEC turreted one and the 2 pounder, also in use with UK forces?
Gentlemen, your informed opinions on this topic please. Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Alex |
