Fitting a 2 pounder instead of a 37 mm seems logical (to me, at least !) for an army which is equipped with British hardware.
Syria and Lebanon being in this sphere of influence in early post-war years, ammo availability was an important parameter.
The same logistical logic drives to fit 2 pounders on ex-French R35.
And others 2 pounder armed British A/C were used by those countries.

British conversion ? Maybe but locals could have done them too (see the R35).
