Hi Alexander,
A good reference for this vehicle is the Tamiya booklet on the Churchill. This booklet is out of production for some time now, but still can be found when looked for (ebay?).
Regarding your questions;
1- See the Tamiya booklet (some nice close ups) or try Google (not much pics).
2- The same.
3- These 165mm AVRE's were all built on the MK 7 chassis.
4- I do not know 100% certain, but as far as I know, they were not used in Korea.
5- Churchills used in Korea were MK 7 Crocodilles, though they fought mainly as gun tanks with the trailer decoupled.
This AVRE had fixed fitting points to the hull to make use of enginering equipment possible (dozer, etc.).
They were fitted out with the standard British six barrel smoke grenade launchers (like on the Centurion) on the turret front left and right hand side.
The demolition gun mantlet usually had a big canvas cover in place. The gun itself was a straight tube, rather thin walled low velocity ordnance.
Extra towing hooks were fitted to the rear hull plate
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Alex |
