| Subject: | Dry Stowage 47 degree M4A2? | |
| Date: | May 3, 2001 |
| From: | Mike & Janet Roy | |
This Sherman has applique armor on the hull, so it is dry stowage. IIRC the
only dry stowage hulls with the 47 degree glacis plate were M4A2. I don't
think that any dry stowage M4A3 with the 47 degree glacis plate were made
(but I will not bet my life on it!).
Are there other pics of this specimen? Like, say, the engine deck? Can you
verify the existence (or lack of) of the vertical blocks welded to the
sponsons for the M4A3 engine grills to rest on when opened? These should be
directly ahead of the rear lifting eyes. If they are not there, then it is
very likely an M4A2.
I can't be sure without more information.
