Typically smoothbore guns have shorter range or lose their accuracy at longer ranges since there is no rifling. They have a much higher muzzle velocity, though, as the rifling tends to slow the projectile.

As for killing power, the Israeli's and USMC have shown that the 105mm is more than capable of knocking out current Soviet tanks. The 120mm just makes sure it is a one shot kill and with more destructive power.
