I am also interested in making a Mark 10 in Berlin urban scheme, along with a plain old Mark 5.
Last I checked, Imperial Hobbies, Wings Corner and Burnaby Hobbies are all sold out on the Tamiya Chieftain tank. I visited all 3 places in the last 2 weeks and did not see the kit on their shelves. I hope to get lucky and find one at the Fall IPMS show.
Other guys pointed out a UK company called Castoff which makes two resin conversions. A "Mark 5 Upgrade" for GBP7.50 and a "Stillbrew Conversion for GBP18.50.
You can see a photo of the Stillbrew conversion over at a web site called "Dave's Armour" www.davesarmour.in2home.co.uk/workinprogress.htm
The AA conversion that Scott mentioned is very expensive but very comprehensive. Naturally, you get what you pay for when you shell out over CDN130.00 for the AA kit. On the other hand, the cheaper Castoff conversion, supposedly, is still missing some things. But I don't know what because, like you, I haven't got the Castoff kit or references in hand to know.
There are no specific Chieftain books currently in print. But there is a rumour that Bob Griffin from the UK will be putting out a new Chieftain book. I am hoping that Bob's book will come out eventually. He is the same guy who recently did a book on the Conqueror.
Over on Missing Links, there is one or two nice long thread(s) dated from 8th of August 2000 last year all about the Tamiya kit. Rob Lockie posted a very long and comprehensive list of fixes for the Tamiya kit. This thread is well worth seeking out.
As to the Berlin Brigade paint scheme, this web site has a good write up on it's origin and history.
