Tank 233 is shown in lower photo on page 179 of "Tigers in Combat Vol. 1" by Wolfgang Schneider (that's the hardback edition, the paperback may differ). 233 is shown from the right side towing tank 132, and it has the escape hatch, not a pistol port. However, it has a later style bustle box rather than the Panzer III style box seen on the early tanks, so it may be a replacement vehicle. Wish I could get you something more definitive. I'll keep rummaging around to see if I can find any other shots of the battalion during their "white number" phase.
Initially, the 503rd's vehicles were delivered in dark gray. The reference to the non-standard paint would be correct for the spring of 1943. Reportedly, the battalion maintenance officer basically said "screw it" when the new three color camouflage was instituted, and dumped all the colors into a single barrel, producing a muddy greenish color. Exact final shade is anyone's guess, though. Eventually, pattern painting was instituted--one vehicle photographed just before the Battle of Kursk in July had a half-hearted disruptive pattern, shades unknown.
