I don't have any more info on this picture other than the caption from Concord's "Tank Battles of the Pacific War" by Steve Zaloga. But I'm pretty sure Mike is correct when he states that the M4(105)H HVSS did not appear in the PTO before Okinawa.

Now for the big question: were 105mm Shermans (VVSS) used at all in the Pacific before Okinawa? I know the Marines did not use them in WWII, but how about the Army?

I don't recall ever seeing a picture of a M4 or M4A3 105mm howitzer tank in the PTO other than those late HVSS tanks on Okinawa.
