Quite a few 'early' mid production Tiger Is' didn't have zimmerit. They were dispatched to the east. Schwere Panzer Abteilung 509 had a number of these examples delivered in September 1943.
As for Normandy, I believe the only mid production Tiger Is were those that served with Schwere SS Panzer Abteilung 101. The 3rd company was equipped entirely with mid production Tiger Is while the 1st company was partly equipped. All had zimmerit. There were no exceptions.
If you are going to model a Tiger I mid production in Normandy then to make sure you should do an example from 3rd company SS101. These had blue numerals with a yellow background and all had zimmerit. |
