| Subject: | Pz IV Early Ausf. turret 'periscope' doohickey? | |

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone here knows about the 'periscope' on the top of some early panzer IVs...They are refered to as 'signal ports' on the DML page about the Pz IV Ausf D and I read about the tallest one as being a 'periscope' in the AFV Modeller Mag (#23) that covered the build on the Tristar Pz IV Ausf D...
So my question is this, is that taller 'signal port' actually a periscope? Also, what would it look like inside of the Pz IV? I have the Tanks in Detail book and on top left corner of page 53, it has what it's calling 'the gunner's periscope' and it's in the same position as the 'periscope' that I'm talking about (though the TiD image looks like it's an image of a long barrelled pz IV)...is that it?
Thanks,
RC
(I added that pic to show what I'm talking about exactly...hope it's ok) |
