To take this thread a bit further, if it was NOT effective the
U.S. Army would not have made a habit of using chain-link fenc-
ing to protect against B40 and RPG warheads twenty-odd years later
in Vietnam, would they? God knows how many books I've read describing
that, and talking to some of my Platoon and 1SGT's when I was in the
service in the eightie's. Using a barrier to prematurely detonate
shaped-charged warheads had to be an effective measure, or the idea
would have went the way of Zimmerit.

Also, I just remembered from when I read "Death Traps" by Bolton
Cooper, he related how the layer of sandbags the Sherman crews used
WAS an effective measure against Panzerfausts, and I just NOW remem-
ber the Russians used the "bedspring" barriers on their tanks in the
final battles of WW2.

The experts may have thought those guys were peeing into the wind,
but the crews thoughts they were pretty effective.
