Yes they were assigned to SS units. Even up until the time of Operation Citadel there were small numbers in service with Waffen SS units.
The Battle of Kursk by David M. Glantz and Jonathan M. House contains some equipment tables for 1st, 2nd and 3rd SS. Only 3rd SS had short barrel IVs left by that time.
1st July 1943 - 8 in service
4th July 1943 - 5
8th July 1943 - 7 after repairs
9th July 1943 - 7
10th July 1943 - 7
11th July 1943 - 4
13th July 1943 - 3
15th July 1943 - 3
16th July 1943 - 4 after repairs
No details given on markings but they'd probably be in Panzer Grey base coat with perhaps a disruptive camouflage scheme over the top. |
