Well, my 52 is half finished now. I've always had a softspot for the german 5 driveaxle steamers. I have som knowledge of the loco. The class 52 is the most produced locomotive, 6356 made during the war and a few hundred after.
1. The tender, it is correct! It's a lesser known/used type. The more used type was a type called wannentender, with a halfrounded bottom, it's in CMK's kit.
2. The colour, as said skip the red chassis for a war time loco. The first ones were grey, RAL 7011. After that they (the most of them) were painted blackgrey (Schwarzgrau) RAL 7021. The camouflaged variant should have 7021 painted chassis.
3. The smokescreens. There is a picture of one having this type of screens during the war, no 52 180. But there could be a few more. The wooden Wagner type was used on other classes and was to save steel. After the war they got Witte type smokescreens and they look completely differnt.
4. Numbers. 52 2495 made in 43 by Henschel. It should have the ladder type leading up to the smokebox. Used after the war by the Czecholovakia and Bulgaria, Stored in 1990. 52 1325 made by DWM in early 44. Had the Wannentender, i have a rear view picture of it in a book. Don't know if it should have stand type or ladder in front of smokebox. Used by the DR after the war, preserved at Brandenburg. 52 8139. Postwar renumbering in the 60's when 52 3209 got a new boiler not looking like in the kit. The boiler is called a REKO-boiler. Made by Jung in 43.Used by the DR and preserved at Schöneweide.
5. The eagle with swastika marking for the cab side. Not used on class 52.
6. The inside of the roof should be covered with wood. Inside walls mid grey? The door open inward and ar hinged at the rear. Trumpy forgot a shovel for the fireman!
7. The kit's tender wheels doesn't fit. I made bushings out of 5/32 Evergreen tubing. The axle is about 3.1mm in dia.
8. Reference. A: Eisenbahn Journal Sonderausgabe nr II/96, Die Baureihe 52. B: The German class 52 Kriegslok, Stenvalls förlag, Sweden.
9. It's really a good kit!!! Not excellent but good.
