The cylindrical object is a 'stowage tube', most probably used to store the gun cleaning rods. Early KV I's had them sometimes, KV II's never had them. External fuel tanks on early KV tanks were not cylindrical, they were boxes, strapped to the fenders. Aber does a nice PE set to make this early fuel tanks.
