Lee,
On the M4A2 and M4A1 tanks...the Brits provided one turret apiece to Canada and the US for experimental purposes. These two turrets currently still exist.
Photos of these are in many older research books books misidentified as Fireflies. This has led to a lot of people believing that these two models were used for Firefly production.
The Canadian turret rests on a cast hull Grizzly (Canadian production version of the M4A1). In the US, at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, it sits on an M4A2 hull.
The Canadian Grizzly was a one-off test bed vehicle. It was evidently unsuccessful, as it went no further and currently resides in a Museum.
The APG turret has resided on several different hulls over the years for Museum display purposes. The M4A2 does not have any of the internal Firefly hull conversions.
hth,
mike |
