Das Reich operated Pzkfw IV G's & H's in its 6th company. White outline turret numbers, no imp/hobgoblin/kobold. This symbol was unique to the Tiger company. Divisional insignia definitely on the back. On the front - unknown. The balkenkreuz were thick black with white outline on the hull rear.
"S" stands for schwer(e) which means heavy in German. Das Reich had 14 Tigers on strength. Which were serviceable and which operated together on which day, I don't know, but keeping tanks of the same platoon together is a good "rule of thumb". Divisional insignia definitely on the front. On the back - unknown. The balkenkreuz were thick black with white outline on the hull side.
A good book for SS & other divisions' strengths at Kursk is "Operation Citadel A Text and Photo Album Volume 1: The South". It is available from JJ Fedorowicz Publishing (www.jjfpub.mb.ca)
Hope that answers some questions and doesn't raise too many more.
Enjoy !
