| The Pershing turret worked on the Sherman hull. However, the project was not proceeded with, as it was believed that the standard T-26E3 tank would be ready in about the same time frame. Considering that the HVSS suspension was introduced in August, 1944 on the Sherman production lines, yet did not appear in significant numbers in the ETO until well after the first of the year, they were probably right. Still, a parallel production run on Sherman chassis would have meant the availability of more 90mm gun tanks in the short term, so in retrospect, it's a shame the project was canceled. |
