Hallo James,
am I right, that these photos depict a real (1:1) watercan you bought and not 1:35 or so model like some readers thought?
If yes, the colour looks like the RAL 8020, which I had me mixed in my local colour store (sorry, I don't know the right word for german "Baumarkt"). It's a bit reddish like your water-can. So I think it is the right Afrika Korps Gelb used from May 1942 to May 1943. Before that (from March 1941 to April 1942 RAL 8000, a khaki-like colour was used).
So if you use this colour for your future models, they will quiet look a bit different from other DAK vehicles.
