There were two Tiger battalions in the Ardennes offensive, the SS 501st and the Army 506th. The SS battalion was newly-equipped with 45 standard turret King Tigers without Zimmerit. The 506th had been equipped with 45 Zimmerit-coated King Tigers in August, including at least two early "Porsche" turret tanks with snorkel housings. The unit lost one-third of its strength in the fighting around Aachen before being brought up to strength again in December for the new offensive with newly-built vehicles without Zimmerit. If the early turreted vehicles were still in service then, they were not photographed, so the question remains unanswered.
