SS-Pz.Abt.501 was an independent heavy tank battalion under Army or Corps control, allocated to specific units for use in offensive operations like the Ardennes offensive. Its parent unit would have been 6th SS Panzer Army or 1st SS-Panzerkorps, & for the Ardennes operation it was placed under control of 1st SS-Panzerdivision "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler". A lot of its personnel were originally from the Leibstandarte, so they would have continued to wear that unit's cuffband; soldiers from other W-SS units so transferred would still continue to wear their former units' cuffbands too.
Hope this helps you.
Cheers,
Chris. |
