The New Mexico locale would go a long way to explains it's condition. Well that and maybe 50-some coats of paint perhaps... Regardless, I'd be happy to re-paint that every summer to have it in MY YARD.

Funny how some of the old WW2 and earlier stuff can show up pretty much anywhere, especially VFWs and Legion posts.
The USA used to allow troopies to bring back DEWATS, then went "PC" in the late 60s to end it all.
