Hi David:
References that talk about he 3rd and 9th Armored Divisions being the only ones to get Pershings are referring to the 20 tanks shipped over as part of the Zebra Mission, which were evenly distributed between those two units in February 1945. A couple of hundred more arrived in-theatre before the end of the war and were issued to several more armored divisions, including the 2nd. I'll check my references when I get home, but I'd be pretty confident putting a star on the engine deck of a 2nd Armored Division Pershing. They appear to have received pretty standard markings otherwise.
