Tim,

Firstly, I love your website.

Secondly, US Airborne in WW2 is probably my favorite topic to study. Having read both of Ed Ruggero's books, SLAM's Night Drop, all of Bando's books, Nordyke's All American All the Way, Descending From the Clouds by Spencer Wurst, and who knows what else, I agree: the BAR was used certainly by the 82nd, though not as much by the 101st. One thing to consider is the source for some of these weapons post-June 6. For any battle thereafter, they could have been acquired from dropped parapacks, from Glider Infantry troops, or regular infantry who came in landing craft. So it's tough to determine the source. But after reading Nordyke's book, there seemed to have been a LOT of BARs, so my hunch is that they were dropped in parapacks or jumped on the troopers themselves.

There is also a pic in the Osprey book on Market Garden, I believe it's the last photo in the book, showing 17th AB troops boarding the planes prior to Op. Varsity, and one guy has a really big Griswold bag and has a BAR belt on, leading me to believe it's a BAR in there.

Rob
