Tim,

Here's what I've found.

So far, I've been looking through Ed Ruggero's "Combat Jump" (Sicily), and all MGs seemed to have been dropped in para bundles. I didn't see one mention of a BAR, except for one para who took one from a dead infantryman several days into the battle.

In Nordyke's "All American All the Way", which I consider the definitive history of the 82nd in WW2, in looking at the chapters on Normandy, again, I found no mention of anyone jumping with an MG, but many mentions of them in para bundles.

Regarding the BAR in Normandy, there were several instances of paras using them very early in the fighting in the early AM of June 6, which leads me to believe that they were not taken from dead glider men, but rather were jumped with the paras or dropped in bundles.

Please post if you read this...otherwise, I'll try to contact you some other way.

Rob
