Matt, you don't have to buy a special tool to make the waffle pattern in zimmerit. It's really not that hard to make one yourself with just a few basic tools. First start with a piece of square stock, plastic(best)or wood. Second cut or carve the end down to the size of one individual waffle section. Third with a razor saw, cut in the end of the piece several parallel cuts. Next make more cuts at a 90 degrees to the first set of cuts. You should now have a tool with a square waffle pattern cut (or carved if you don't have a razor saw) that you can use to imprint the pattern into whatever you use to replicate the zimmerite. Just be sure to keep the end of the tool wet to avoid having your zimmerit stick to the tool.
Apply the zimmerit in small sections and work it a little at a time instead of trying to cover the whole vehicle at once. Also you can make a second tool with several "waffles" to cover more area at once if you want, but you can still go pretty quick even with just one waffle square to work with; it's up to you. Hope this helps and good luck. |
