Hi Mats

As far as I've read the posts, nobody mentioned the A4/V2 Rockets and other pieces of German rocktetry. The Americans and the Russians tried to gather as much of the remaining items and parts as they could (as well as scientists and operative workers).

The Americans succeded to evacuate about hundred assembled rockets from the "Mittelwerk Dora" before they handed it over to the Soviet troops, but there were enough parts left to assemble lots of rockets and the US forces were not able to evacuate all of the usefull documents about the production of these weapons.

The Germans themselves had produced about 6000 of them between 1944 and 1945 and fired some 3500, be it for testing, training or against Allied targets.

The Russians were able to build their own remakes of the V2 within less than a year and used them for research purposes and further development througout the fifties until the ealy sixties. Some of the early Soviet IBM's originated from this rocket as well.

You could say that the A4/V2 is the backbone of modern rocketry and and spaceflight, in civilian as well as military use.

Yours

Arun Bauer
