Welded, but no two the same. Read Belton Cooper's "Death Traps". He was one of the people in charge of welding them to 3rd Armored Division's tanks, and he said that no two of the prongs were the same, so no two were really attached the same. From photos (I'd recommend Zaloga's US Tank Battles in France), it seems short lengths of the angle irons they used to make the prongs were welded to the hull, and then the prongs welded to those short pieces.
