Hi Paul.
I think that Eric's pictures in the original thread on the IIIJ barrel are a great tool to show how the error may have come about.
Over reliance on certain drawings has led to errors in kits over the years, and measuring a museum vehicle is clearly not the same as measurements of a vehicle in service.
The hypothesis that the gun is not at full length because of age, oil leaks and lack of pressure is interesting. It makes me want to know more about how the recoil mechanism works... Are there cut-away diagrams of the recoil housing or recuperator mechanism out there?
