Paul:

I have looked through my photos and the spotfaces (technical name) in the
flange on the gun mount casting appear in several of them. It is not a
matter of a different type or version, but simply a matter of how much extra
steel ended up in the fillet radius between the vertical cylindrical region
and the flange. It is the same principle behind the various sizes and
shapes of chamfers at the bottom of Sherman turrets.

As to the model, there should be seven (? - that's how many are on the left
side fender) bolt heads running along the bottom of the casting flange,
parallel to the edge. These are what held the back edge of the fender
(lapped under the casting) in place. Looking at the proportions, it seems
to me that spotfaces similar to those on the VMMV Grant should be present
because the cylindrical section goes right to the edge of the flange. BTW,
the same sorts of bolts are missing on the left fender, too.

However, this is a rather small thing, I think. For example, the fender
itself was sheet metal with angle welded along the outside edge. This is
not represented in the kit either. The headlight brush guards had four
little feet that were used to bolt them to the fender - they weren't welded
as shown in the model. There should be two brackets on the left front
glacis to hold a cal. .30 MG tripod, or two pairs of holes where they were
removed. I also question whether T-24030 was a Grant I rather than one of
the diesel versions . . . You get my point. I guess there is always
something extra that can be done.

You mentioned a few areas of concern. If you want to let me know what they
are, I'll look into them.
