Yes, Sturmtiger saw action on the Eastern Front.
The Sturmtiger in Kubinka (Russia) belonged to the Sturmmörserabteilung 1000 and was captured by the Russian in Nyékládháza (Hungary).
The Sturmmörserabteilung 1000 saw action in Warsaw (during the uprising against the insurgents). On 17. Oktober 1944 the unit was sent by train from Warsaw (Poland) to Budapest (Hungary), on 20. Oktober the unit was sent back to Warsaw. One Sturmtiger remained in Hungary (in Nyékládháza). No one knows why. This one Sturmtiger was captured by the Sowjets and today it is showed in Kubinka.
Sturmtiger was build on middle and late Tiger I chassis.
The Kubinka Sturmtiger was build on a middle chassis.
On the following link you will see a picture of the Kubinka Sturmtiger while capturing by the Sowjets in 1944.
