| Sure. Obviously, the actual degree of vulnerability in reality might vary with that programmed into the game, but the theory is sound. Mortar shells have the dual advantage of plunging fire and an indirect "scatter" approach. This means that the shell fragments may enter the vehicle through apertures in unexpected ways. Remember also that the blast effect from a direct hit or very near miss can injure the crew in a lightly-armoured vehicle even if the armour itself is not penetrated. Picture yourself inside a metal barrel working on some difficult task while somebody on the outside smacks the outside with a baseball bat. Is the bat doing you physical harm? Probably not -- but your ability to function is likely to be impaired! |
