There are several photos in the Panzerwrecks series of later series Stugs with schurzen that were individually mounted with a single, large (~1"?) bolt centered near the top of the plate. This would have provided a little more secure mounting than simply relying on a hook and gravity, but would probably have put more strain on the angle-iron mounts.
