Hi Georg,
I had a turretless Tasca Firefly left after cross kitting this kit with Dragons MKIII and some Tamiya M4 parts to make a MKIC Firefly. So instead of doing the sensible thing, which is adding a turret to it and making a normal M4A4/MKV, (which will appear as a kit anyway soon I guess), I thought to try this conversion, bypassing the Academy Lee bad bogie problem at the same time.
So it is more or less using up parts from the 'spare box' together with the Academy Lee kit then it it was a deliberate project from the start, for indeed, it's perhaps not the most economic way to end up with a M3A4!
The Lee/Grant tanks are probably the weirdest, if not ugliest looking tanks ever, that made it to series production. But the long hull A4 version is at least the best looking of the bunch!
Luckily the parts break down of the Academy kit, especially the seperate hull side panels, make the conversion rather straight forward, it seems. Replacing these hull sides with new longer, 'doorless' items cut from plastic plate, and correcting the forward angle of the left hand forward hull joint at the same time will be the major surgery of the project.
Georg, with the parts you use for your build you are left with a number of hull panels from the Academy kit. I'm desperately in need for 'salvaged' rivets from the Academy kit for I rather add identical rivets to the ones allready in place, then that I have to do them all new all over the whole model to get an uniform finish. So if you're willing to part with some of these left over parts I would be very much obliged indeed.
I also wonder if you can give some exampels regarding paint schemes and markings for the M3A4, as pics of it are very hard to find?
Cheers,
Alex |
